Abu Dhabi, November 2025. Centravis, a leading global supplier of seamless stainless steel tubes and pipes, has announced the official launch of NIKOPOLIUM® NP 2205 and NP 2507, its next-generation of Duplex and Super Duplex stainless steel grades, during the ADIPEC Exhibition & Conference 2025 in Abu Dhabi.
Developed using Centravis proprietary grain boundary engineering, NIKOPOLIUM® NP 2205 and NP 2507 deliver a significant shift in performance for demanding oil & gas and chemical applications. The product combines high mechanical strength, exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice and intergranular corrosion, and a widened operating temperature window from –60 °C up to +350 °C – outperforming standard duplex and super duplex steels while approaching the corrosion resistance of nickel alloys at a significantly lower cost.
“With NIKOPOLIUM® we are redefining what duplex stainless steel can do,” said Andriy Balev Ph.D., Head of R&D at Centravis. “Our customers no longer need to choose between cost and performance. NP 2205 and NP 2507 close the gap to nickel alloys while keeping projects economically and operationally viable in some of the harshest environments on earth.”
Built for sour, chloride-rich and high-temperature service
Extensive laboratory testing and field validation demonstrate that NIKOPOLIUM® NP 2205 and NP 2507 set new benchmarks for duplex performance:
- Enhanced localized corrosion resistance – both grades exceed standard duplex and super duplex in ASTM G48 pitting and crevice corrosion tests; NP 2507 achieves higher critical pitting and crevice temperatures than conventional 2507-type grades in chloride-rich media.
- Proven sour and acid resistance – corrosion rates well below 0.5 mm/year in ASTM G28 ferric sulfate–sulfuric acid tests, meeting demanding requirements such as Aramco 01-SAMSS-047.
- Outstanding toughness – Charpy V-notch impact energy up to 188 J at -60°C makes NP 2507 particularly attractive for LNG, arctic and subsea systems where standard duplex steels may require nickel alloy substitution.
These properties make NIKOPOLIUM® an optimal choice for:
- Sour gas OCTG and flowlines with high H₂S and CO₂ content
- Offshore and subsea structures exposed to seawater and chlorides
- High-temperature process piping, heat exchangers and reactors up to 350 °C
- Aggressive chemical service in sulfuric, nitric, caustic and mixed acid systems
- LNG, hydrogen, ammonia and CCUS infrastructure
“The heart of NIKOPOLIUM® is microstructure,” commented Andriy Balev. “By precisely controlling the ferrite–austenite balance and grain boundary character, we have achieved a stable structure that resists embrittlement and localized corrosion across a much wider temperature range than traditional duplex grades.”
Performance without the nickel-alloy price tag
NIKOPOLIUM shows performance in ASTM G48 and G28 tests comparable to high-Ni alloys such as Alloy 625 and C-276, particularly under sour gas, chloride, and acidic conditions.
With significantly lower nickel levels – 4.5-6.5% for NP 2205 and 6-8% for NP 2507 – the grades offer a more economical, stable, and environmentally responsible alternative.
“We named this product NIKOPOLIUM® as a tribute to our city and the workforce behind this breakthrough. This grade is proof that Ukrainian metallurgy does not just compete—it sets a standard, matching the world’s leading technologies in performance while delivering superior cost-efficiency.” Yuriy Atanasov Centravis CEO.
